Short Breaks Programme
SPDC continue to offer short breaks via our family project, which consists of a weekly, term time Family Club, holiday and weekend activities, together with our age-related short breaks activities which operate during the school holidays. Further details are as follows:
Family Project
This project seeks to provide activities aimed at all members of the family including disabled children and young people, siblings, and parent carers.
Holiday and Weekend Family Activities
This year saw the return of SPDC's ever popular family Christmas party which was attended by 180 people from 51 families. SPDC have also hosted a pantomime visit, pumpkin carving at Forge Mill Farm, visits to the cinema and the bowling alley, watersports at Sneyd Lake, a fun swim at Crystal Leisure Centre, hydrotherapy sessions, a performance from a traditional Indian Circus at the Oak House in West Bromwich, home deliveries and a Sports Day at Tipton Sports Academy.
Family Days Out
Working in conjunction with Variety, SPDC were recently able to offer free access to a local Safari Park enabling 126 disabled children and young people to enjoy a much needed day out with families. In addition to this SPDC were also able to offer the chance to spend a day at the seaside during the summer holidays.
Age Related Activities
This programme is offered on two age ranges, 4-11 years and 11-18 years, and as two seperate projects throughout school holidays.
During school holidays disabled children and young people aged between 4-11 years and 11-18 years were recently able to access activities consisting of a creature feature, providing a chance to meet a variety of animals up close, a visit to Scallywags for soft play and a teddy making opportunity, a pizza bash where children were able to make their own pizzas and eat them in a restaurant environment, an archery session, a visit to Clue HQ in Birmingham, an interactive escape room, a 'Make and Bake' home delivery offering various baking and cooking opportunities along with age appropriate craft opportunities and much more!
